Tips for the new college student

Ok, so college might not be rocket science, especially if you were a straight A student in high school. But sometimes, we can let things get in our way. Also, the new world of a college campus offers us some pretty distinct distractions, making it harder than ever to score the grades you deserve. So, what does all of this add up to? Simply that there are just some things you NEED to do in order to succeed, and there are some things that you do NOT need to do. Perhaps this list of tips will help you keep it together through your new college experience… enjoy.

First, go to class. No, you will not get detention for skipping class, but your grades can take a hit! Skipping classes will only hurt you in the long run.

Second, meet people. You need friends, or you will get lonely and bored of college in no-time. Besides, part of getting out on your own is meeting new people and cultivation new relationships, right?

Third, try to arrange your classes in groups. If you put your classes back to back, you are much less likely to skip than if they are spread out. Putting them back to back saves time, and it saves you from having to sacrifice hours of your day waiting for your last class to start.

Fourth, get to know people in charge. This means RA’s, hall directors, members of the student government, professors, and even janitors! Getting to know these people can really help you, especially since they are the ones holding all the cards!

And finally, take care of yourself. Make sure that you eat enough, and make sure that you are eating right. Also, make sure that you are exercising at least in some way, and do not drink alcohol in excess! In fact, not drinking alcohol at all is the best idea.

Teaching Degree – Become a Teacher!

Education and Training

In order to earn a teaching degree, you will need to complete coursework in areas such as mathematics, physical science, social science, music, art, and literature, as well as prescribed professional teaching courses, such as philosophy of education, psychology of learning, and teaching methods. Many colleges require you to major in either elementary, secondary, or higher education. All 50 states and the District of Columbia require public school teachers to be licensed, but the requirements for licensure vary by state. However, licensure is not required for teachers in most private schools.

Other Qualifications

In addition to being knowledgeable about the subject area that they teach, teachers must also be able to communicate and motivate students. Teachers are expected to be able to recognize and respond to individual and cultural differences and adapt their teaching style. Teachers must also be able to work cooperatively and communicate effectively with other teachers.

Employment Opportunities

After completing your teaching degree, there are a few different career paths you may pursue. These include:

• Preschool or Kindergarten Teacher
• Elementary School Teacher
• Secondary School Teacher
• Postsecondary School Teacher

A preschool or kindergarten teacher plays a vital role in the development of children. Teachers help these early-age children to learn concepts present in mathematics, language, science, and social studies. These teachers use games, music, artwork, films, books, computers, and other tools to teach basic skills.

Teaching Degree

An elementary school teacher generally teaches a single class of children, from five years old to twelve years old, in several different subjects. The teacher’s goal is to help further the students’ language and vocabulary development, improve upon their social skills and teach scientific and mathematical concepts. Elementary school teachers complete this task in a few different ways. Teachers read with students, spend individualized time with each student and have the students work in small groups.

Secondary school teachers also known as high school teachers, instruct students ages twelve through eighteen. They expose students to more valuable information about the world and provide the knowledge and skills that are needed in order to attend a postsecondary school. These teachers usually specialize in one specific subject. Class options include English, mathematics, history, Spanish and chemistry. These teachers are also trained to teach subjects that are focused around careers.

Postsecondary school teachers teach students in numerous academic and vocational subjects well beyond the high school level. The majority of postsecondary teachers are college and university faculty. Because of technological advances these teachers need to have advanced technology skills that include computers, e-mail, software programs and the internet.

Job Outlook and Salary

According to the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment opportunities for individuals with a teaching degree are expected to grow about as fast as the average occupation. The Bureau reports that the median annual earnings for teachers in 2013 was $56383.

What is STEM – A Wonderful Way to Fast Track Your Career!

Can we get honest for a second? Your career is one of the most important things that you will ever have or do in your life. It can determine where you live, how you live, who you marry and how well your children are taken care of. Somme people argue that you really are better off following your passion rather than the money. However, we argue that you can’t get the real goals of your heart done without making money. It just doesn’t hold up. It doesn’t last. It doesn’t give you what you’re really trying to achieve, and it just makes life harder in the long run. The truth is that you definitely want to make sure that you can get all of your dreams to come true — or at least a high majority of them. This brings us to an interesting option: STEM.

Now, if you’re thinking — well, what is STEM — you’ve come to the right guide. STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. These four subjects cover a lot of ground, which might sound a little crazy. However, you don’t have to pursue all of them at the same time. They are simply pathways to solid careers you’ll be able to enjoy for a very long time. You see, our society values production as a value. There are some degrees that really don’t lend themselves to helping the economy as a whole move forward. If you are finding that you would rather stop and focus on building a profitable career and then doing your passion in your spare time, this is an option as well. There are plenty of people that focus on getting as much money as possible professionally while still getting things taken care of in their spare time. They can look into all of the interesting things that catch their attention and just focus on providing for their future families later down the road.

So, where do you really stand with all of this? You have options when it comes to STEM. If you want to work on computers, there’s a path for that. On the other hand, if you have more of an interest in hard mathematics, then you can pursue that too. The point here is to never settle for a lackluster career when there’s so many opportunities to educate yourself. Good luck!

Essay on Health Care Behavior

Writing essays is a common exercise in learning institutions like high schools, college, and university. In most cases, these written assignments help lecturers and tutors to gauge the understanding of students concerning a given task. Based on the performance, it is easy to tell the needs of your students as a teacher and emphasize areas, which appear complex. Importantly, essays come in different ways. For instance you could be asked to write an essay on health care behavior or any other issue at hand.

An essay on health care behavior requires one to either be a professional in the health care sector or a professional writer who can handle the topic in the best way possible. Nonetheless, there are certain elements, which have to be considered when handling an essay on heath care behavior. These include but not limited to the definition of health care behavior and the benefits which it has.

Health care behavior can be described from a general point of view as the interplay between one’s behavior and his or her overall well-being. In this context, the behavior and well-being can be considered either socially or at individual basis. Health care behavior is commonly applied in the field of medicine, to enhance holistic approach towards realizing total well-being. How often does people’s behavior deviate from normal? When writing an essay on heath care behavior, it is pivotal to think of our behavior, how they are managed and how we behave abnormally.

Another important aspect to consider writing an essay on health care behavior is that most of the programs, which are launched endeavor to help mentally, affected people in the society to remain independent. Additionally, it helps those who are under the influence of drugs or substances to remain socially acceptable by the people around. This objective eliminates placement of such individuals in institutions that shape people’s behavior. At the heart of these programs is also the desire to make them more productive and remain independent in the society. Continue reading

Advanced File Sharing For Teachers

Educators at all different levels are always dealing with changing methods and practices, and it’s perhaps more true today than ever before. It seems that there are always new standards and ideas about teaching, and with those standards and ideas there are always new ways of gathering, covering, and teaching material. These days, with technology increasingly present in classrooms at various levels of school, teachers are relying more and more on the quick implementation of new ideas and methods. And this is where advanced file sharing services have started to come in handy.

Advanced file sharing services and cloud storage have been implemented in thousands of businesses, and are used primarily for simplifying and enabling advanced communications. Here are a few specific ways in which they can be of service for busy teachers.

Exchanging Teaching Materials

The need to send large files – teaching manuals, extensive standardized test forms, and even digital text books, etc. – arises very frequently for students, and often ordinary email won’t get the job done with such large files. On the contrary, advanced file sharing services can provide the necessary support for these types of files. For example, popular provider ShareFile allows users to easily send files up to 10GB.

Set Up Folders For Students

With access to a cloud storage system, teachers can simplify work for both themselves and their students by setting up digital folders for student work. This way, students will be able to keep their work organized and in a single location, while teachers will be able to easily track student work and make sure students are staying on schedule and doing their work.

Ensure Student Integrity

Through encrypted communications and the aforementioned folders, teachers have new ways of ensuring student integrity on assigned work. From the security of knowing where an email or file transfer came from, to tracking work as its done, teachers can have more control over student work, all with the benefit of what amounts to a simpler and easier to manage environment.

Increase Convenience For All

The bottom line is that implementing advanced file sharing and cloud storage services simplifies the education process for students and teachers alike. Teachers can exchange materials more easily, students have a convenient digital means of doing and handing in work, and all of it can be done on a single file sharing system. School is implementing technology and digital work more and more, and these services are helping to simplify the transition.

Getting Your MBA Online – Yes, Really!

If you’re thinking about trying to go back to school for something, why not go with your MBA? Of course, if you’ve been going off old information, you might think that the MBA program is something that you have to be in person for. You can’t just do an online degree program…or can you?

There was a time in the education world where an online MBA wasn’t even heard of. Even though the technology had been around for a while, people turned their noses up at such an idea. It felt cheap and overdone, and employers even wouldn’t run with it. But times have truly changed. We’re now a global society, so why shouldn’t our education program reflect that? Shouldn’t you go with a degree program that truly nourishes you as a person, on your terms?

If you’re looking for more information on the MBA program, this is the guide for you.

Of course, the MBA is the Master’s in Business Administration. What do you really get with an MBA program? You get to demonstrate a true commitment to your field of choice. You’re putting in the time and money to truly expand your skills in a way that others haven’t done. If you’re looking to move up in your career, you will eventually have to get your MBA. It’s a great way to stand out from the crowd, because many people will not want to take the next step. An MBA degree isn’t something that’s gained overnight. It’s a very tough course of study because it really gets into the specifics of the way business is supposed to run.

When we say that it’s intense, we definitely mean it. In year one, coursework appropriate to the student’s specialization in year two, and a written research project or capstone course to demonstrate the student’s management and specialization expertise. Year one generally includes some combination of business courses in accounting, economics, ethics, finance, human resources, labor relations, law, management, marketing, operations, organizational behavior, statistics, and strategy.

MBA specializations include almost every field imaginable including accounting, business, finance, health care, international management and entrepreneurship, marketing, operations and supply chain, and pharmaceutical management. Two relatively new specializations are innovation and sustainability; coursework is appropriate to the student’s specialization.

You definitely want to go with an MBA program that allows you to get specific. Out of all of the specializations, the most common are finance, marketing, and international management. Finance careers tend to be pretty lucrative, since you’re around money all of the time. You’ll be working in high finance with others that are truly interested in how business influences the world economy. That’s right — it’s not about just your backyard anymore. When you take on an MBA program, your path will be on a much higher level.

Employers want to see that you’re constantly evolving in your field. The MBA is just one way to do that.

The online MBA is the perfect way to achieve your career goals while still being able to be there for your family. Going back to school shouldn’t mean that you have to give up everything that you’ve already worked so hard to build.

If you’re trying to get into an MBA program, keep in mind that you’re going to need to have a few things in order. It goes without saying that you will need to get a bachelor’s degree first. However, it doesn’t have to be in business — you can always go with another field and move some business courses in later. In addition, you will also need letters of recommendation from colleagues, teachers, and other people that can truly speak well of you. Minimum scores on the GMAT or the GRE are usually required. Of course, you can go with an MBA program that doesn’t require the GMAT at all.

Think carefully about the way you want your career to be. It’s tempting to believe that you don’t have options, but you really do. You can get your MBA online and have the freedom to continue your education. Good luck!

Coping with Depression While In School

Depression hurts everyone, at different points in their lives. You might feel that your fight with depression just isn’t worth winning. You might feel that your fight with depression is too big for you to win. The truth is that you really can win the battle of depression, get your education and move on to a better life.

The trouble with our society is that we’re just now realizing that depression is a serious issue. We think that just because someone isn’t suicidal that they can’t possibly be depressed. This isn’t the case at all. The reality is that you can definitely be depressed without waiting to commit suicide. It’s a slow pain, the type of pain that drags on from day to day. You want to make sure that you’re getting your goals met, and that means that you have to often be focused on the moment more than other people. You’re going to have to dig down in a way that other people might not have to do. You’re going to need to take care of things in a different way. This doesn’t mean that you’re broken — it means that you’re fighting a separate battle.

So, lay down your fears. Nobody is watching your every move. Nobody is judging you. Just by reading this article, you’re already committing to a better life. You’re already telling the world around you that you’re ready for a real change. You’re ready to actually make things happen. You’re ready to feel something connect together in your life. That’s worth it, isn’t it? That’s worth something, and it needs to be something that matters to you. Gone are the days where you had to sit on the idleness while everyone else reaches a good life. You have to make sure that you’re always thinking about your needs above everyone else’s. That’s step one.

But what about the rest of it? How do you really cope when it feels like everyone else around you is doing just fine?

The truth here that you need to understand is this: not everyone around you is doing as well as you think they are. You might think that they are, but that’s only because you’re only getting part of the picture. They are only getting part of the picture when it comes to you as well. So the key here is that you cannot give into what others think about you. That would just put your life on hold, and who really wants to do that, at the end of the day?

Reach out to depression support groups on campus, or online support groups if you’re going to stay online. The world is really up to you. There’s nothing wrong with making sure that you really have a lot more options than meets the eye. It’s just going to be a matter of ensuring that you’re thinking about what you honestly desire. Could Skipping College Really Work For You in the Long Run?

Ah, what could be a better subject than skipping college altogether? We’re all about giving you information that fits the modern world. No matter where you live, there are stories of people who are going into big time debt for their education dreams. This is not something that will surprise anyone that’s a long time reader of this site, but we think that this isn’t the best way to go.

Our opinion is that many students look at college like it’s a magic bullet. They’re expecting everything to just go smoothly because they can’t imagine it going any other way but that’s not really the best idea that you want to take. It would be a lot wiser to think about the goal that you have for college and go from there. Why would you want to risk getting yourself in trouble with debt at such a young age? That’s only going to end in terms of disaster. Who wants that?

The best approach here is to look at not just college, but skipping college altogether. This goes into our other criticism — don’t just skip college to skip college. Sure, it’s kind of nice to know that you can sleep in late when others are rushing off to those morning classes that everyone hates. However, you’re not going to get anywhere fast if you don’t start thinking about the future you have in terms of life itself. College isn’t the only destination to getting things done. You just need to figure out your best path.

If you’re going to skip college, then you need to have a pretty good strategy. If you don’t, then you’re going to eventually get passed by as people get not only college degrees, but experience. The most common reason why people get worked up over skipping college is because they want to launch their own company. But is that something that they really have to skip college for? Not at all. It’s going to be up to you to build a blueprint that includes your college aspirations along with other career goals that you might have. It’s something that everyone needs to work on, in our opinion. The rise of the Internet means that you no longer have to just settle for offline businesses that take up all of your time. Why not go with an online business that doesn’t take up time, or one that can be outsourced?

It’s true. There are plenty of ways to start a business, but that goes outside the main scope of this article. If you’re really interested in entrepreneurship, then you really owe it to yourself to start working on your dreams now while you’re thinking about them. Remember that it takes a lot of effort to get a business off the ground. So don’t just give up your dream of going to school because you think it means that you get to be lazy. The truth is that there is a lot of opportunity to get things done as a business owner, and then scale outward with time. A lot of people want to rush into the whole “make money while you sleep” thing, not realizing that it takes time to get there. It takes time to build what you ultimately wish to do.

Getting sidetracked because other people are on different paths is only going to make life harder for you, not easier. If you’re serious about skipping college, or even just delaying college for a while, you need to have a solid backup plan.

What type of job are you going to do while you’re trying to get your business off the ground? Are you going to invest in something that’s designed to give you a lot of leverage? Are you going to be able to save for the future while you get your business up and running? There are a lot of different things involved when it comes to getting everything wrapped up, and that’s not always easy to process. That’s not always easy to deal with.

But it is something that’s worth fighting for.

You might have other reasons why you want to skip college. If you are taking care of a sick relative, then that is definitely a good reason to delay college. Even though you want to go to school, you have to be realistic. Are you going to be able to honestly balance the demands of the relative with your college schedule? Probably not. Giving college your full attention is always a good idea. They do make online classes and correspondence courses that you can check out, if you’re really feeling like you should go.

Make sure that you also think carefully on the best path to take before things get too far out of hand. You might want to go off to college, but what about delaying for a year? If you start thinking about your options early on, you will not have too much problem getting things wrapped up neatly.

What about your family? If you’re really young, your family might be hoping that you’re going to go to school. The funny thing about parenting is that a lot of their unfulfilled hopes and dreams come out in terms of what they want for you. So if they never got to go to school, you might hear a lot of angst and grief about your decision not to go to college. You have to also think about the fact that many of the business opportunities that you have available to you weren’t available to your parents. That’s something that tends to really complicate matters in a big way. The more that you can focus on these things, the better off that you will honestly be. Make sure that you get things started as soon as possible — take care of yourself!

Do You Really Need to Drop Out of College After an Emergency

An emergency definitely comes out of nowhere – after all, if you had advance warning it really wouldn’t be an emergency, now would it? You have to think about all of your options, especially when you already have existing obligations. For example — what are you going to do if one of your family members gets sick or someone dies? Some would suggest to you that you should quit college, but is that really the best option?

Not always. You see, when people withdraw from college, the odds are against them when it comes to going back to college. They don’t ever expect to not want to go back, but you might be surprised what happens to your attitude when you know that you don’t have to go back if you don’t want to. It’s not like mandatory schooling, where you will have absences that are counted against you. Once you withdraw, that’s it — no more school, ever — if that’s what you want, of course.

It all goes back to your overall reasons and goals behind going to college. When you want something bad enough, you will do just about anything to get it. It invades your dreams, and it represents something that means a lot to you. Your family means a lot to you, but you have to think about it from a logical point of view. There is going to be a time where your family isn’t going to be there for you. Shouldn’t you make sure that you’re going to be able to take care of yourself?

Now, this doesn’t mean that you can’t do other things to make sure that your family is stable. You can stay in college and travel on the breaks, which would still give you time with your family. If you have a relative that needs long term care, you have to evaluate for yourself if you even have the ability to take care of them. That isn’t a slight against you in the least — it’s just reality. Many relatives get to a point in their lies where they really need to be watched over by a qualified medical professional. You don’t want to try to leave such an important task to chance. If you can’t handle it, it’s better to admit that up front.

Setting realistic boundaries can keep family at bay. If you think that you will have trouble handling an emergency, it’s definitely time to ask for help. Why would you ever want to just sit and suffer silently? It’s only going to make things worse, and that’s never a good idea.

Through it all, you have to remember to breathe and look at things from all angles. There are definitely times where you really do need to drop out of college after an emergency has hit your family. On the other hand, there are definitely times where you don’t need to drop out. Dropping out of college when you’re so close to getting the degree that you’ve worked so hard for is frustrating. You also have to think about how your financial aid is going to be handled. You could end up giving up a lot of free money if you don’t think through things carefully. That would be a real shame. Make sure that you study your options and make the decision that’s right for you, first and foremost! Good luck!

Jumping into the Real World After College

Jumping into the real world after college isn’t easy. And for college students that are currently rolling their eyes while reading this — hear us out. You might think that you’re already part of the real world, but you’re in for a shock. There are so many safeguards and safety nets built into college. Having a problem with a subject? You can easily go to tutoring. If you have a problem at a big time job, you’re going to have to figure out the tutoring aspect on your own. You’re going to have to discover what works and what doesn’t. You aren’t going to have a career counselor right there on the corporate campus, and you’re certainly not going to have a psychologist willing to listen to you and your problems.

In other words, there’s going to be a world of issues that you’re going to have to face on your own, which can be really difficult. You must think about everything that you have planned, and then plan around those concerns. Some classic problems as classic, and others might be more challenging. So if you’re on the verge of graduating, this guide is for you.

First and foremost, do you have goals mapped out? We’re not talking about the vague goal of “get a job”. Do you really know where you want to work? Can you visualize the ideal company in your mind? Do you think that you’re going to be able to attract them to you? There is so much involved with trying to get the perfect job that it can be really difficult to corral your thoughts. But what you need to do is make sure that you’re taking massive action. Don’t just query a few companies — query a lot of them. Write a cover letter that truly breaks out of the mold and sells you as the best candidate. Demonstrate your deeper knowledge of the company. You should be pulling clips where the company is mentioned. Study their advertisements, their media mentions, their ability to attract customers…everything. You want to make yourself an affordable and efficient resource for the company to tap into when it truly needs star talent. If you just practice the shallow research style that many college students do, you’re not going to stand out.

It’s better to also think about who can serve your needs well. If you are finding that you need more contacts that are actually in the same industry as you, you should be sending them casual emails at first. You can even make a small “free report” that you could give them that demonstrates you know what you’re talking about.

Better yet, why not build a website and give the free report away from that portal? This opens the market wide open for you. Even if you’re not going to be paid for the site, there’s still a chance to make an impression that’s positive. People in your industry can hit your website and really see that you have a lot to offer beyond the classic college student answer of “I’m broke, hire me anybody”. If you randomly reach out for companies, then they’re going to treat you as a desperate party that will just work anywhere. That’s not something that you really want to deal with.

What about the flip side of this? Is there a social element to getting into the real world after college? Absolutely! You have to think about getting involved in the community around you. Is there a way that you can get in touch with the local community through charity work? This is one of the best ways to be visible to a wide array of people. You might even get a job offer just because you demonstrated that you have a real heart for service.

Take caution, however — in the real world, people can see the difference between being manipulative, and being persuasive. People love persuasive people, because they bring a lot of value with them. However, manipulative people only think about themselves without thinking about what they can offer others.

Take care of yourself through all seasons. Don’t give up just because it’s hard. You’re not going to be the first college student to have your own fair share of problems, and you certainly won’t be the last. Once you get it all sorted out for your own situation, don’t you dare keep information to yourself. Remember how difficult it was for you when you were confused about everything? Exactly. You are much better off making sure that you focus on helping someone else navigate through the waters. Not only will you be making a difference, you will also be giving yourself a good refresher so that you don’t lose the information you’ve worked hard to obtain.
